I'M SORRY, BUT I REALLY DISLIKE THE FAULT IN OUR STARS

If you've been living on this planet for the last year or so, I can pretty much guarantee that you will have heard of The Fault in Our Stars. Chances are that you'll love it, too. You'll have cried at the book, sobbed at the film, and never been able to say the word "okay" in the same way again. If you're one of these people, I totally respect that. I don't want to offend anyone with this post (I would say that it's just a bit of fun but last time I aired my views on this topic I think I nearly lost a friend), but I feel I really need to get this off my chest. I'm sorry, but I really, really hate The Fault in Our Stars.

It's not the topic of the story that gets to me so much (although it is true that this particular type of book and film are totally cliche *cough* My Sister's Keeper *cough*, and I'm not sure how I feel about people capitalising from other people's suffering), but it's more the characters (and pretty much all of the plot) that aggravate me the most.

I'll start with the male protagonist. For some reason everyone seems to be swooning over him, but I just don't get it. I'll put it out there: I think Augustus is a creep. He's manipulative, he's cringeworthy and his grasp of the English language is just plain bizarre. The amount of "I want an Augustus" and "Augustus is what all boys should be like" I've seen slapped all over social media recently actually slightly scares me a little bit. He is the perfect example of everything I would not want in a boyfriend. Arrogant, pretentious and just plain embarrassing to be around, Augustus Waters is the living embodiment of kill-me-now. He speaks as if he's in a Shakespeare play (I mean, what 17 year old really comes out with a speech involving the 'inevitability of oblivion'/uses the phrase 'all our labour will be returned to dust'?!) Frankly, I'd rather receive a text. And if anyone ever tried that cigarette metaphor stunt around me I would have not be "okay". Cringe. Me. Later.

As for that kissing scene in the Anne Frank house, am I the only one who thought that was totally bizarre? It's weird enough having a first kiss at a bus stop, yet alone inside one of the world's major memorial sites. When I visited Amsterdam, I felt too awkward to even speak inside that place, let alone start fornicating on the floorboards. If I had, I highly doubt the entirety of the room would have given me a standing ovation like the applause Augustus and Hazel receive. Chances are I would have been thrown out and told to have some respect, and rightly so.

I feel I'd better stop now before this gets out of control. Normal service will begin shortly.

BEAUTY HAUL: REVLON LIPSTICK IN 002 PINK POUT AND COLOURSTAY EYESHADOW PALETTE IN 505 DECADENT

Hey everyone! If you know me, you'll know that I'm an absolute sucker for freebies and deals. When I saw that Revlon make up was 2 for £10 in Boots last week (they're on 3 for 2 now), I couldn't help but make a couple of new purchases. I've heard so many good things about the brand, however I was yet to try a lot of Revlon make up myself. I decided to get a new pale pink lipstick to replace my favourite (and really old) Rimmel one (see my recent lipstick post), as well a new nude eyeshadow palette.

Revlon Super Lustrous Matte Lipstick in 002 - Pink Pout (£7.49)
Revlon Colourstay 16 Hour Eyeshadow Palette in 505 - Decadent (£7.99)

I absolutely love this palette! I'd definitely recommend it if you're just starting out in makeup and need a few key shades to start with. You can create a really lovely brown smokey eye with this palette, or just use the shadows on their own. My favourite is definitely the golden brown shade on the top right, however I have also loved using the really pale pink highlight alone with mascara, too. The eyeshadows are reasonably well pigmented and last all day. As someone who desperately wants (and can't afford) the NAKED palettes by Urban Decay, it's nice to have a cheaper equivalent.

The lipstick is great, too. It's a really nice, understated day to day shade, which makes a nice change from my other more in your face lipsticks! I suffer from quite bad dry skin on my lips, however this lipstick is reasonably moisturising and so doesn't aggravate that too much. It's really buildable depending on how much colour you want, and I think it's a great addition to my collection. I've heard great things about other shades in their range (I really want the Black Cherry shade), and so I may have to purchase some more!

SAVE: BLACK PONY SKIN EFFECT ANKLE BOOTS

Hey everyone! If you know me, then you'll know that I love a good deal. Whilst procrastinating by online shopping this week, I found a great dupe for a pair of Office boots that I've been lusting after for ages. I just had to share it with you!

I've loved these Office Pony Skin effect boots for a while now, and have been waiting for them to go into the sale endlessly. I'm a sucker for a pair of heeled black boots and I've been looking for a pair without a platform recently. I just think these are so chic and classic. The pony skin effect is a bit different and I think these boots would add a bit of an edge to any outfit.

I actually think these cheaper equivalents (more than half price!!!) are a more practical option than the Office boots. The heel is a lot lower and so I reckon they'd be a lot more comfortable. Other than the heel height, they're practically identical to the Office pair. I trust ASOS shoes to be good quality, and so I definitely think you'd be getting a good deal if you were to invest in these.

A LIPSTICK FOR EVERY SEASON: MY FAVOURITES OF 2014

It's no secret that I absolutely love lipsticks. I'm always expanding my collection and I go through obsessions/phases with different shades each season. Today I thought I'd share with you the lipsticks I reached for the most during 2014. It was so hard to choose these as I have a lot that I love, but I think it's fair to say that these are my ultimate favourites.

I think Pink Blush (far left) was my first ever lipstick. I bought it for my Year 11 prom back in 2011! Although I had an absolutely hideous taste in clothes/make up then, I've been in love with it ever since. It's such a lovely shade of pink and I haven't found a pale pink I like as much as this one since. It's a really pretty, understated shade which just adds that little bit more to a make up look/outfit.
Maxfactor's Heat (second on the left) is a lipstick that I acquired last year from my mum, who has apparently had it for years! It's probably a bit gross that I'm still using it but it's stood the test of time and I absolutely love it. Orange lipsticks are so on trend at the moment and they look great with a really pale eyeshadow look. Think Lucy Watson from made in Chelsea. I wore this a lot last spring, and have been reaching for it quite a bit recently, too.

The Rimmel by Kate Lipsticks are a huge drugstore favourite with loads of bloggers/Youtubers and I can see why. I have quite a few but my favourites are 01 (a classic red) and 04 (a dark purple). I wear the red all year round, and the purple was a huge favourite of mine in October/November time. I've heard loads of good things about shade 107 as well, which seems to be a deeper red and a sort of mixture of the two.
MAC's Sin is my first and only lipstick from the brand, and I absolutely adore it. I wore it pretty much every day from when I got it on Christmas Day right up until the beginning of January, and I'm sure I'll wear it a lot more during the coming winter months. You can read and in-depth review of it here.

(Left to right)
Rimmel Lasting Finish Lipstick in 006 - Pink Blush (£4.99)
Maxfactor Lipstick in 850 - Heat
Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate in 01 (£5.49)
MAC Matte Lipstick in Sin
Rimmel Lasting Finish by Kate in 04 (£5.49)

What is your favourite lipstick?

SHOE GAME STRONG: ASOS' CURRENT SHOE COLLECTION

Hey everyone! I've just spent the last hour or so browsing ASOS' current shoe collection and I have to say that it is amazing at the moment. I honestly don't think I've ever liked so many pieces from one website before! I love ASOS' shoes not only because they are always on trend, but because they're usually really good quality, too. After much deliberation, I've chosen some (this is actually a very slimmed down selection) of my favourites to share with you.

FILM REVIEW: THE THEORY OF EVERYTHING

As far as films go, most of my friends know I haven't really seen that many. I'm the kid who always replies "um, no" when asked if I've seen the latest release (or just lies and ends up in a spiral of despair when asked details about the film in question.) However, I've actually seen quite a few recently. In December I saw The Imitation Game, which was incredible and at the time in the running for the prestigious 'Elly's new favourite film award.' This weekend however, I saw The Theory of Everything. I'm not even quite sure where to begin when talking about this film, and I apologise if my grammar isn't perfect because I'm still slightly emotionally shaken up from watching it. In the best possible way.

If you haven't heard of this film, it's the true life story of world renowned English theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking. The film follows his time at Cambridge and his subsequent career in physics, his relationship with his wife, and his battle with motor neurone disease. I was hooked (by hooked, I mean I forgot to open my food for the first 3/4 of the film) from the outset. The story is incredibly inspiring and very emotional. I must have cried about three times during the film, and then pretty much all the way home! I've never reacted so strongly to a film before. I can't quite describe the way it made me feel, but it has honestly changed my perspective on a lot of things. It's a wonderfully romantic yet real portrayal of an incredibly hard and very human situation, and it's been pulled off in the most tasteful way. There's been criticism that the film isn't completely true to Jane's memoirs, but regardless of this, if we view the film as a film in it's own right, it works perfectly.

Hawking is played by Eddie Redmayne, an actor who I've only seen in a few films before. I'd always regarded him as 'pretty alright' (and a strong 9), but his performance in this movie was absolutely incredible. He was so convincing throughout, and handled this most challenging of roles astouningly well. I'm so pleased that he was named best actor at the Golden Globes this weekend  I'd never heard of Felicity Jones (who plays Jane Hawking) before as I'm not the biggest film "buff" (why is that even a term?), but she also gave a brilliant performance (and is also the dream.) The two are utterly convincing and work so well together that you forget you're watching a film almost entirely.

As for the aesthetics, the film is beautiful. The costumes (always an important factor for me) are amazing. As it's set from the 1960s onwards there are a lot of turtlenecks, pretty dresses and men wearing decent outfits (boys at York, please take note.). I won't spoil anything for you but there are some absolutely aesthetically stunning scenes and I just loved the overall look of the picture.

If I'm honest, words just cannot do this film justice and so I highly recommend that you go out and see it as soon as you can. You will come out seeing the world in a whole new light. It's a really moving story of love, inner strength and responsibility which will stay with you for a long time.

"While there's life, there's hope."

P.S The last few months have been great for film releases, and so I thought it would be a nice addition to my blog if I shared with you my opinions on some of the films I've seen recently. In fact, I'm thinking of starting to blog about more of the general things that I'm into rather than just limiting it to fashion and lifestyle, because I'd really like to explore other areas of blogging too. This blog is meant to be about having a chat with you guys as friends and I think it would be nice to expand my "niche". Let me know if you think this is a good idea!

OUTFIT OF THE DAY: WHITE SKIRT IN WINTER

I have been in love with this white skirt from Missguided ever since I bought it in back in August. Sadly, though, our winters always seem to be a lot longer than our summers, and so I had come to the conclusion that I'd have to put it away and wait until next summer to wear it again. A few weeks ago, though, I decided to try to pair it with black tights and I was actually pleasantly surprised! It can be done. Here I've paired it with my new polo neck cropped jumper from Missguided and my monochrome shoes from ASOS, but it literally does go with everything. Paired with these shoes and my glasses I feel it gives quite a retro look which you can never go wrong with! Sorry to keep dragging out this old coat from ASOS but it's my favourite and seems to go with most of my outfits.

LUBIANA WHITE A LINE MINI SKIRT: MISSGUIDED (£12.99)

OCCASION DRESSES: AVIVA DRESS.CO.UK

Hello everyone! Recently I was contacted by Aviva Dress, a company specialising in occasion dresses. They stock a huge range of wedding and prom dresses, as well as lot of more versatile formalwear. As someone who loves to dress up, browsing their site was a lot of fun. I never get the chance to wear occasion dresses like these, and so I decided to pick out three of my favourite long dresses from their site to share with you. They have a huge sale on at the moment with some great discounts, so I'd recommend checking them out if you do have a formal event coming up and you don't want to pay the earth for a nice dress.

A-line Square Sleeveless Floor-length Chiffon Champagne Prom Dress/Evening Dress - £359.99 £69.99

This dress really stood out to me when I was browsing the site. I absolutely love the unique grid detailing on the bust and the shoulders, and I really like the way it's been styled here with a simple pink lip and up do. This cream/nude colour isn't something I'd usually choose (I'm pretty much always wearing black), but I think it looks so demure (exactly how I'd describe myself...) and understated here and it's definitely opened my eyes to trying new things. This dress is perfect if you want to stand out in a sophisticated and chic way. Sometimes going for something understated like this makes more of a statement than sporting a huge neon princess dress!

A-line High Neck Sleeveless Tulle Long Prom/Evening Dress With Beading in Red - £269.99 £69.99

The thing I really love about this dress is the neckline. I'm a sucker for a high neckline and I love how this one works with the sheer panel. It makes what could have been a simple strapless dress that bit more interesting and chic. Being a bright red dress, this is definitely a piece that makes a huge statement as soon as you walk into the room and will certainly turn heads (in a good way.) I've never worn a red dress before but I'm having visions of me strutting (tripping) into a fancy event wearing this. Once again they've got the styling here totally right, I think this would look great with a volumnious hair style and natural make up.

It wouldn't be a blog post by me if it didn't feature a black dress! If you've seen my recent trend post, you'll know I'm loving black pieces with embellishments at the moment, and so I couldn't leave this piece out. It's such a chic dress that I think is definitely the most versatile of the ones I've chosen. The shoulder detailing is just insane! I also love the keyhole detail at the back. You could style this in a variety of ways, too. I'd probably go for a vampy lip and a similar hair style to the one in this picture.

Have you got any occasions coming up?

TREND: ALL BLACK (AND EMBELLISHED) EVERYTHANG

Hello everyone! I don't know whether it's because it's just been the party season or what, but recently I've found myself being drawn to simple black pieces with embellished details, especially around the collar. I usually HATE rhinestones and all that because I find them quite tacky, but having seen the pieces H&M have been stocking recently (I couldn't find them on their website, but in store they have some beautiful things) I've been converted. I just think it's such a simple way to make a statement. If you pick the right things I actually think it can be really classy. Topshop have a great selection of pieces in store and online at the moment (some of which are in their sale!!), and I've compiled a few of my favourite things available online in this post.

1. WAREHOUSE 60S BEADED NECK DRESS (£48)
2. MISSGUIDED EMBELLISHED TRIM OPEN BACK PLAYSUIT IN BLACK (£32.99)
3.topshop embellished high neck tunic (£38 £18)

4. topshop beaded shell top (£38)
5. TOPSHOP PEARL SHOULDER SHIFT DRESS BY RARE (£45)
6. TOPSHOP EMBELLISHED COLLAR SHIRT (£36 £20)

Let me know which (if any) is your favourite!

OUTFIT OF THE NIGHT: JUMPSUIT AND PLATFORM HEELS

Somebody told me the 70s were coming back in, so I got the platforms out again.

Coming home from uni has meant I've been able to look at my wardrobe in a completely fresh light. I've found so many pieces that I've been neglecting for years. One of them is this jumpsuit which I bought from Topshop two years ago. I'd forgotten how comfortable it is! It's like going out in a onesie. Jumpsuits are great because not only are they really comfortable, they're so easy to style. You don't need to spend ages stressing and planning an outfit because it's all done for you. I just paired this one with my platform t bar heels (that I bought about 3/4 years ago) from Missguided. I think they might have been my first ever heels! They're pretty much impossible to walk in but I love the height they give and the way they look with these trousers.

JUMPSUIT: TOPSHOP
HEELS: MISSGUIDED (similar on ebay)
